Grout stripping is the process of removing the top layer of non-sanded grout to eliminate discoloration and staining, allowing the grout’s natural color to show through. This technique is only appropriate for non-sanded grout and is typically used with soft natural stones like marble, limestone, travertine, and saturnia.

Following stripping, grout should be re-sealed to boost stain resistance, and routinely maintained with a non-acidic stone cleaner like MARBLELIFE®’s proprietary Marble, Tile, & Granite Cleaner available for purchase in our online store.

You can strip grout once or twice before you need to begin considering re-grouting.

  • The outcome of the job was remarkable Our thresholds were completely restored. The technician was professional, personable and worked with us to get the desired level of shine. He protected all of the surrounding surfaces and did a great job cleaning up. I would definitely use Marblelife in the future and recommend others to do the same

  • Re-grouting

Re-grouting is a technique which replaces damaged or compromised grout. There are several reasons why re-grouting may be an appropriate consideration such as improper initial grout installation or building movement.

Breaks in the grout can be read by skilled MARBLELIFE® craftsmen trained to identify causality and the long-term feasibility of repair options.

To begin the re-grouting process, the old grout much be cut out to expose enough installed tile edge for the new grout to bond with. It’s important to note that simply filling in new grout over the old doesn’t work, as new grout cannot bond with old.

For corners or at the intersection of walls in a primarily wet environment, re-caulking or caulking may be recommended or required. Caulk possesses a greater movement capability allowing it to retain its seal integrity under conditions which would split traditional grout.

A trained MARBLELIFE® professional can provide guidance on the best solution for your needs. As always, after re-grouting or re-caulking, it’s important to employ proper maintenance techniques using gentle non-acidic cleaners.
